Common Core State Standards
Teachers, parents, school administrators, and experts across the nation have come together to establish a single set of clear educational standards for kindergarten through 12th grade in English language arts and mathematics that states voluntarily adopt. The standards are designed to ensure that students graduating from high school are prepared to enter credit bearing entry courses in two or four year college programs or enter the work force.
Our teachers here at Bandini Elementary will be focusing on the following strategies throughout the 2014-2015 school year:
- Reading nonfiction articles
- “Close Reading” or the careful, purposeful rereading of a text
- Informational writing
- Math Journals – explaining our thinking while we solve problems
All teachers have been attending Common Core trainings provided by the District and at our school site. We will continue to work hard and make sure that all students receive the support they need throughout the year. Thank you for all your support!
Through a district-wide collaboration, a Comprehensive Learning Framework (CLF) has been created. Its purpose us to better anchor, monitor, and to celebrate the work of every individual, division and organization throughout the Montebello Unified School District. The CLF directs and supports cohesive and collaborative action toward fulfilling the MUSD’s vision and mission that support the MUSD graduate profile of Critical Thinkers, Communicators, Collaborators, and Creators.
This three-minute video explains how the Common Core State Standards will help students achieve at high levels and help them learn what they need to know to get to graduation and beyond.
